10 Effective Business Website Design Trends

December 21, 2021

When’s the last time you thought about how customers use your website?

If you haven’t given it much thought recently, your website may be out of date. It could be confusing, hard to navigate, and unable to sell your services.

That means you’re leaving money on the table, and you don’t even know it.

But with good website design, you can wow your customers on their first visit, and keep them coming back for more.

Not sure what makes for a good website design?

Here are 10 website design trends you need to be aware of.

1. Accessibility

Modern website design trends have shifted to increase accessibility. Having an accessible website shows visitors that you care about them and their needs. It allows for your site to be more inclusive and accessible to millions of people that might not otherwise be able to use your site.

By not making your site accessible, you are alienating your audience.

2. Strong and Bold Fonts

Strong, bold fonts can be used to draw readers’ attention to a particular line of text. If your website has multiple sections on one page, bold fonts can be used as titles to draw a user’s attention to the heading of each section.

3. Minimalism

Elegance in simplicity. That’s the essence of minimalism. A minimalism website will have minimum text, clean and simple graphic elements, and an easily navigable interface.

The user won’t have to guess where to navigate to next. Their options will be clearly displayed.

Having a sleek website design will give customers confidence in your brand and make your website memorable.

4. Video Graphics

Don’t underestimate the power of video. Using video graphics is a bold statement. Video attracts attention and engages visitors in a way no other medium can.

Video is a great way to show off your products through video testimonials. Let current customers sell new customers on your products by talking about how great they are, or how they solved a specific problem.

Make sure your videos are short and relevant to the page. The last thing you want is a long, boring video on your company website.

5. Micro-Animations

Micro-animations are small movements of elements on a page. A micro-animation could be a color change or a moving icon or shape.

Micro-animations can subtly draw your visitor’s eye to important information, and help them navigate your site. For example, a micro-animation could highlight the “contact us” button on your website.

6. Triggered Animation

You can use triggered animation to make your website more interactive with users. A click or hover can bring changes to your web page, highlighting new tidbits of info. Triggered animation can gently prod your visitors to take action, and encourage them to explore your site.

If you want to guide your users to a specific destination, consider using triggered animations.

Just be careful to not overdo it. It could make your site confusing.

7. Storytelling

How does your product or service solve your customers’ problems? How will it make their job easier? Will it change their life?

You can use storytelling to communicate your value to potential customers. Tell them why your product is so revolutionary. Then if you want to dive deeper into the features, you can.

But first, you must hook them. Your storytelling methods could include text, animation, video, or a combination of these methods.

8. Bold Colors

Branded websites often strive for neutral colors that match their brand, with the occasional bold color thrown in for attention.

However, if you’re not afraid of using bold colors and learning color psychology, you can use colors to draw attention to your brand and create an emotional response. You can use red to create an emotional response that indicates strength, love, and excitement. Or you could use brown to indicate that your brand is rugged and trustworthy.

Either way, don’t be afraid to be bold when using colors. It exudes confidence.

9. Dark Mode

Dark mode, or dark themes, can create a simple but dramatic effect for your site. White text and some bright elements against black or another dark background can create a great juxtaposition. If you want to highlight a particular product or feature, showing the product off in dark mode draws the readers’ eyes to it.

A bonus of dark mode: it can make reading easier under low light conditions.

10. Custom Fonts and Images

It’s easy to find stock fonts and images online. Everyone knows Times New Roman and Arial. But if you want a really distinctive website, you need something custom.

A custom-designed font can communicate your brand’s message and image. Pair it with custom, professional images and you have something unique.

If you’re still using stock images, you risk using the same images everyone else is using. Your images may even become a cliche and a joke. That’s probably not how you want your business to be seen.
